01. Anesthesia & Pain Management & ICU
Welcome to the anesthesia /ICU department at Al Rahba hospital. This department is one of the key departments at our hospital and consists of highly qualified and excellent skilled multinational team, which provides the highest quality of care for all patients according to the hospital’s mission and vision.
The department is committed to provide high quality, international standard anesthesia and ICU care that will meet the needs and expectations of our patients.The department provides a full spectrum of anesthesia services to all patients of different age groups on a 24 hours /day, 7 days per week basis.
The services offered by the department include but not limited to the following:
  • Anesthesia for elective and emergency surgery :
The department provides anesthetic services for General surgery, Trauma surgery, Obstetric Gynecologic surgery, Orthopedic surgery, ENT surgery, Traumatic neurosurgery, ophthalmologic surgery, vascular surgery and fasciomaxillary surgery.
The department also provides anesthetic services for a modern day-case surgery unit with two operating rooms.
The department offers contemporary anesthetic services including general anesthesia by using the most recent inhalation anesthetics and TIVA, regional anesthesia (Spinal, epidural with or without catheter and peripheral regional nerve blocks) and intravenous regional anesthesia.
  • Management of labor pain :
The department offers the service of labor pain analgesia by using the epidural analgesia as continuous or as walking epidural analgesia.
  • Postoperative acute pain service :
The department offers the postoperative acute pain service together with well trained nurses by using the different techniques. (Patient Controlled analgesia, regional and nerve blocks analgesia).
  • The intensive care unit :
The department covers this eight bedded multi-disciplinary mixed ICU It is equipped with modern and high technology ventilators with wide range of ventilation modes and multifunction monitors. This unit is managed according to the international standards and evidence-based medicine.
  • The department actively participates, through its representative in both Trauma and CPR team, in the management of polytrauma and CPR victims.
02. Dental, Oral & Maxillo Facial Surgery
The Dental Department at Al RAHBA Hospital is committed to excellence. It strives to provide dentistry of high standards and has obtained JCIA accreditation and met HAAD requirements. All staff are encouraged and supported to maintain and update their skills through participation at various international conferences, lectures and workshops. The dental department sees itself also as part of the community and has a strong interest in Preventive and Children’s Dentistry, often participating in events such as Women’s Health Day and the Family Development Program.
Being part of a hospital, the Dental department also caters to patients with Dentofacial injuries as a result of trauma such as accidents at home or from Motor Vehicle accidents.
The department also provides restorative treatment, scaling and polishing and extraction as part of General Dentistry. However it also offers specialized services such as Period ontology, Implantology, (using the latest technology and techniques), Oral medicine, Management of facial pain and the treatment of patients with facial deformity such as cleft lip and palate and jaw discrepancies. 04. Dietetics
The Department of Dietician are striving to provide optimal nutritional care for all patients with identified nutritional needs. Medical Nutrition Therapy is now a recognized element of the treatment and management of illness and chronic diseases and provided by qualified Clinical Dietitian as members of the multidisciplinary health care team for in-and-out-patients of Al Rahba Hospital. Clinical Dietitian are also responsible for eternal nutrition support (tube feeding) when indicated as part of a patient’s nutrition care plan.
Not only are members of the department engaged in rendering medical nutrition therapy, but they are also at the forefront of disease prevention through nutrition education to patients and their families. As more evidence of the influence of nutrients on the human genome emerges, the importance of optimal and healthy nutrition is reconfirmed. Clinical Dietitians and Assistant Dietitians therefore provide nutrition education about healthy eating at every opportunity.
Staff members are actively involved in the Patient and Family Education, Diabetes Care, Care of Patients and Patient Safety Committees as part of the ongoing commitment to maintaining Joint Commission International Standards as a JCI accredited institution. Dietitians furthermore provide education and training to other health care providers as the need areas. They work closely with the Nursing Educators in different sections to orientate new staff to the service and provide continued education on specific subjects.

05. ENT/Otolaryngology
Otolaryngology at Al RAHBA specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of Eustachian Tube Problems, Congenital Nasal Problems and Tonsillitis in Children. For adults, we treat chronic ear disease, chronic sinus problems, introral concerns and problems of the neck and head including the Pharynx.

06. Emergency & Trauma Care
Al Rahba Emergency Room (ER) provides 24x7 services for all incoming patients visiting the department. The ER is equipped with state of the art medical equipment for resuscitation, trauma, and acute medical and surgical conditions. It is staffed with highly trained and qualified physicians, nurses, and auxiliary staff. The physicians working in the department have post graduate training and degrees specialized in Emergency Medicine.
They are supported around the clock by consultation from other hospital specialties.
Additional services included:
  • Full Emergency Laboratory investigations and Imaging services are available around the clock.
  • Patient transport services by state-of-the-art highly equipped ambulances with medical staff experienced in patient transport.
  • A helipad to transport patients by helicopter.
  • An observation unit for treatment of patient who need long observation time.
07. Endocrinology/Diabetes
Service made available for both Out patients and Inpatients.
In addition to providing an advanced care for patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus, we provide care to patients with thyroid disease, pituitary problems, osteoporosis and other metabolic bone diseases and reproductive diseases.
08. Internal Medicine
The department of medicine is one of the key departments at Al Rahba hospital, caring for a diverse patient population and providing wide range of services to patients, employees and the community. It provides services to adult's (above the age of 12) inpatients and outpatients on 24 hours, 7 days-per-week bases.
  • The Inpatient service :
is provided by a team of dedicated and highly qualified physicians. Excellent clinical outcome is our focus but in addition to that we continuously work to increase patient safety, and satisfaction. We believe in the importance of patient and family education and participation in the decision making process. Diabetes care during the inpatient stay, prevention of deep venous thrombosis, bed sores, hospital acquired infections and patient falls are examples of some of the focus areas for the inpatient service. We work within a team consists of highly qualified nurses, dietitians, physiotherapists, a clinical pharmacist, diabetes nurse educators, infection control nurses, respiratory therapist and a social worker.
  • Outpatient general internal
    medicine service :
consists of internal medicine referral clinics (total of seven sessions). Our area of excellence is diabetes mellitus with great record of compliance with the American Diabetes Association standards. Other focus areas are bronchial asthma, hypertension, and heart diseases.
  • Employee health clinic :
Provides services to Al Rahba hospital employees and Contract workers on Tuesdays. Employee health program at Al Rahba hospital Focuses on providing the needed vaccination and screening tests for employees And contract workers (MMR, varicella, and influenza), and the management of Outbreaks and exposure and management of work related injuries like sharp Injuries.
We have an active annual influenza vaccine campaign and annual screening for Tuberculosis. We work closely with infection control program.
  • Medical consultation :
The department of medicine provides consultation services to other departments on 24 hours, 7 days-per-week bases. Our highly qualified internists contribute to the care of surgical and obstetric patients both in the preoperative and post operative periods.
09. Neurology & neurosurgery
Neurology and Neurosurgical expertise is invaluable to the management of brain injuries, brain tumors, epilepsy, spinal disorders, pediatric neurosurgery including repair of neural tube defect, and hydrocephalus surgery.
The Department provides neurosurgical consultation to other sections and departments in the Hospital, and to other institutions by means of telephones and telefax. The Department runs a two days outpatient services clinic and one day for elective neurosurgical procedures.
10. Nephrology
consists of outpatient dialyses unit, nephrology clinic, Hypertension clinic, and Nephrology consultation service.
Our state of the art dialysis center established itself as one of the best units in the area in providing a comprehensive patient care to patients on hemodialysis.
11. Obstetrics & Gynecology
The department of OBGYN provides :
  • OPD services from Sunday through Thursday from 8.30am to 3.30 pm.
  • High Risk Pregnancy Clinic on Sundays and Mondays from 8.30 am to 3.30 pm.
  • Colposcopy Clinics on Thursdays from 8.30am to 3.30 pm.
  • OPD services for the comprehensive management of the subfertile couple.
  • OPD cancer screening for breast and cervical cancer.
  • Contraceptive service including Mirena.
  • One stop clinic for all gynecological complaints.
  • Care of menopausal women.
  • Walk in clinic for all OBGYN services Sunday through Thursday.
  • Emergency service for all OBGYN patients.
  • In patient care for antenatal, intapartum ,postpartum and patients with gynecological problems.
  • Hysterlaproscopic procedures.
  • All major gynecological procedures under taken.
Our major drive comes with the woman”s health initiative which includes cervical and breast cancer screening for eligible women,facilitating and providing early entry into prenatal care and referral to kangaroo clinic whereby expectant parents get detailed counseling from paediatricans in the antenatal period thus preparing them for the birth of their baby.

12. Ophthalmology

13. Orthopedics
When many people consider visiting an Orthopedic Clinic/Surgeon, their first thought is "Oh, I don't want (or need) surgery." They may be right.
Surgery is only one of the many treatment options. Many of the patients never need to have surgery - many times rehabilitation of the injured area is all that is needed. At Al RAHBA, the Orthopedic Specialists/Surgeons work closely with a team of local physical therapists who believe in conservative methods: If an injury can be rehabilitated without surgery, that is what we do. We do inform our patients of all the treatment options they have for an injury, and what the advantages and disadvantages are of each option. There is a lot of valuable patient information available today that can answer many questions a patient may have, or help to calm some concerns they may have. We provide you the most valuable resource for any thoughts or concerns you have, which is why we are here.
If at all you do require surgery, we will keep you informed of why surgery is required, what will be done in the surgery, and what to expect as an eventual outcome after surgery.

15. Pediatrics & Neonatology
The department of Pediatrics delivers total patient care based upon an individualized needs assessment which identifies and treat actual potential problems. Continuous quality improvement plays an integral part in identifying areas where process improvement can be implemented and in identifying potential problems before they arise. The physicians offer a full spectrum of clinical services to infants, children, adolescents, and young adults.
The department of pediatrics provides services to children (12 years and below) inpatients and outpatients on 24 hours, 7 days-per-week bases. We are divided into three sections.
  • One is General Pediatrics which is located on ground floor and consists of 24 beds.
  • Other is NICU, which is located in first floor and consist of 16 beds. We have highly sophisticated ventilators including high frequency ventilation and other necessary equipment to provide care to our newborns at level 3.
  • For critical patients above the neonatal age, we admit them in shared ICU, which is shared by Medicine, Surgery and OB GYN.
We also provide services in emergency department, if emergency physician consult us. Outpatient services consist of outpatient clinics. In outpatient department we have full day clinics 5 days per wk which allows easy access to patient care. The department of pediatrics provides consultation services to other departments on 24 hours, 7 days-per-week bases.
The Department of Pediatrics is dedicated to improving the health of infants, children, and adolescents through excellence in patient care, education, and advocacy relevant to pediatrics.
16. Pharmacy
The Pharmacy Department is a busy and active department that provides comprehensive pharmacy services around the clock and 7 days a week (24x7), the services we rendered are as follows:
  • Outpatient Pharmacy offering a good patient counseling program.
  • Inpatient Pharmacy adopting unit dose drug distribution system.
  • IV admixture room for mixing all IV medications as per international standards.
  • Dialysis pharmacy offering a unique service to the renal failure patient.
  • Drug information and poison control center.
17. Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is the largest part of any rehabilitation group and the first to be established in the region. The Physiotherapy Department is involved with human lives that have been disrupted by injury, disease, the aging process or developmental problems.
Treatment of the patient is not limited to the physical treatment of the disease or disorder, treatment also means motivation, understanding the full psychological impact the condition has on the patient and helping the patient to achieve their optimum level of independence.

18. Radiology & Imaging
The Medical Imaging Department provides Imaging examinations to inpatients (Wards – ICU – NICU - OT) 24x7, patients attending the outpatient clinics, patients presenting to the Emergency Department, and employees clinic. All the Imaging is performed in digital format. All reasonably possible measures are set to avoid or minimize irradiation of the patients and the staff, according the internationally recognized standards.
Permanent daily quality/safety control process is active, according to internationally adopted standards.
The Medical Imaging Department is performing the following diagnostic imaging examinations:
  • General Digital Radiology.
  • Fluoroscopy.
  • Ultrasoundgraphy.
  • Computed Tomography (CT) in Routine and Emergency.
19. Surgery
The general surgery division provides the following services:
  • Emergency Cover :
This includes all kinds of trauma like neurotrauma, vascular and torso trauma. The department also deals with all cases of acute abdomen.
  • Outpatient services :
General and vascular surgery has two clinics per week.
  • Operation sessions :
The general surgery has two sessions per week including day surgery cases.
20. Vascular Surgery
Division of Vascular Surgery at Al RAHBA Hospital had been established in 2008 and provides comprehensive care for arterial and venous diseases.
Our goal is to provide high quality health care for our patients with welfare foremost in all possible times. Quality monitoring through Quality Department includes all vascular surgeries and outpatient visits.
Consultant Vascular Surgeon cares for each patient and is assisted by specialist and SHO from General Surgery.
This section is devoted to provide excellent and comprehensive care for patients with vascular diseases including patients with vascular access from hemodialysis department. We are committed to provide care to those in our local, regional, national and international communities.
Goal:

  • To teach SHOs the art of vascular surgery.
The Division participates in CME hospital education program.
